Case Study – to build or not to build… your home extension – should you move instead?
Here is a case study where the existing house is transformed on ground and first floor levels. The existing house is too small and the layout cramped, and the bedroom configuration is too small for a modern family. At 7 Design, we have worked with many commercial and consumer clients. We have assisted in the design process at all stages and have abundant knowledge and expertise on what is required to get the job done. Our focus is making your home perfect – reaching it’s true potential. All within a budget and timeframe that’s right for you. We begin by 3d scanning your property with 8k photography. Then with this measure we create a digital twin, showing and visualising options for you until you are sure in what you want to achieve. We then move on to technical delivery and contract matters to get your project built on time and on budget.
Maximising your home’s footprint, extending and altering to transform your home.

Our client like many people feel comfortable in the home they already live in, yet they need more space and feel cramped by their existing layout.
This is where our team excel – let our Architect give you ideas that are transformational.
Our dolls house process let’s you evaluate various design options before you commit to technical design and statutory approvals. We are here for you through these later design stages however we know that the more time and energy spent at this intial concept phase will pay dividends as we progress through the design build process.

The architect is working through options with the client and visualising the plan options for the extension and alterations.
The solution being discussed here is larger open-plan family area with a kitchen and dining area with a living room with views to the garden. A home office is formed to the front infill corner, the hallway is shortened, and the existign WC moved. A new utility is formed in the partial garage conversion. Upstairs the bedrooms are re-configured and enlarged. The existing en-suite to the master bedroom is enlarged and a new en-suite added to the front bedroom.

When we have the plan proposals in place with the client – matching their renovation wish list in terms of activity spaces. We can then discuss options on how these spaces are going to be built – do we have high raised ceilings or do we create a rooflight feature for example. Comparison illustrations are prepared and talked through with the client so that they can make an informed choice as to how to proceed with their house extension.

Here we have options visualised for the client’s kitchen – how the footprint might be formed relative to the kitchen design. Should the island be orientated against the flow of the entry point of the hallway for example. Also how much footprint should we take for the kitchen? We can adjust the footprint of the house and take into account the overallalterations to make sure the very best kitchen layout is made possible.

Designing from the plan up is limited and we need to look at the interior design and how the activity spaces will be used. When we show examples of how the roof might be formed the client can choose whether to raise the height at the new extension or continue the ceiling through at the same level.
